Standing Committee Service
In addition to the Executive Committee, the NSG Section may include other Standing Committees with specific objectives in support of the section. Your active participation is encouraged by volunteering to serve on a Standing Committee. Formal descriptions of the committees are listed below.
Honors and Awards Committee shall have the duty to review the rolls of the Section to determine if in its judgment there are candidates for Honorary Life Membership or for other honor or recognition and to recommend such candidates to the Executive Committee.
Audit Committee shall make audits of the Section's accounts at the direction of the Executive Committee.
Membership Committee shall have the duty to search out interested, qualified persons and to encourage them to apply for membership. Following each annual meeting, the President will request that the Chairman of this Committee be appointed to the Membership Committee of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
Public Relations Committee shall provide information to the public and provide speakers or representatives of the Section to Public Schools, Science Fairs, and other functions as requested by the President.
Inter-Section Liaison Committee shall be composed of members appointed by the President to serve as Liaison Representatives to related technical and professional societies and shall coordinate cooperation with those societies.
SEG Liaison Committee shall be composed of members appointed by the President to be Liaison Representative to SEG Committees and shall coordinate cooperation with SEG Committees. The President shall request that the SEG Committees grant membership status to the Liaison Representatives.
Professional Affairs Committee shall identify and recommend action on public, governmental and other regulatory activities affecting members of the Section.
Publications Committee shall assist the Newsletter Editor in identifying publications needs of the membership, recommending action on proposed publications, and assisting in the review of material submitted for publication.
Advisory Committee shall consist of the two most-recent available past-presidents and three additional members of the Section. The Committee shall be responsible for developing an annual long-range strategic plan for the Section and for carrying out other strategic assessment and planning assignments delegated by the Executive Committee.
Technical Committees shall represent the particular interests of the following specialities: Mining Geophysics, Engineering Geophysics, Hazardous Waste Geophysics, Groundwater Geophysics, Seismic and Geologic Hazards, Geothermal Geophysics, Archeological Geophysics, CO2 Sequestration Committee.
