Executive Committee Service

Your active participation is encouraged by volunteering to serve on the NSG Section Executive Committee. Since the NSG Section was established in 1993, it is the efforts of those individuals that stepped up to serve that formed the group to what it is today. Whether you are a senior scientist with experience to share, a young scientist eager to learn and make contacts, or somewhere in between, we urge you to volunteer.

Formal descriptions of duties are listed below, but are not the limits of participation. Office-holders will occasionally initiate, and be involved in, special projects for the benefit of the community.

The President presides at section and executive meetings, calls special meetings as necessary, establishes standing and ad hoc committees, calls a joint meeting of the outgoing and incoming Executive Committees prior to the end of the SEG Annual Meeting in order to promote continuity of administration, communicates regularly with the SEG Executive Committee concerning issues of mutual interest, and represents the section before public, government, and other regulatory bodies.

The President-Elect assumes the duties of the President in their absence, and becomes President for the remainder of the term in event of death or resignation. The President-Elect is responsible for the Technical Program of the section at the SEG Annual Meeting, and determines the date and time for regular meetings and for special meetings as directed by the Executive Committee.

The Past-President presides at meetings of the Nominating and the Advisory Committee, represents the section in the absence of the President, and invites nominations for the Frank Frischknecht Leadership Award and the Harold Mooney Award.

The Vice President is the entertainment and publicity chairman making necessary logistical arrangements for meetings, which includes reserving a place for meetings, making arrangements and securing funding for the annual dinner reception and business meeting, and organizing audio visual equipment as needed.

The Treasurer receives, disburses and keeps accurate account of section funds, reports on the condition of the treasury at the SEG Annual Meeting and at other times on request by the President, and makes the records of the Treasurer available to an Audit Committee to be appointed by the President.

The Webmaster maintains the website and coordinates section information with the Executive Committee and the membership.

The Editor oversees all publication activity, with Executive Committee oversight.

The Secretary keeps the minutes of meetings of the section and Executive Committee and transmits a copy of the minutes of the section meetings to the SEG Headquarters, maintains an up-to-date list of the membership in conjunction with the Treasurer and SEG headquarters, and email notices to members, with Executive Committee oversight.
